How Security Window Film Works
Security window film works by holding together pieces of broken glass when they shatter, forming a protective barrier to keep intruders and the elements out of your space. The film does not prevent the glass from cracking; rather, 3M’s proprietary adhesive technology bonds the shards of glass together. This enhanced strength serves as a deterrent to forced entry, as it takes additional time and effort to penetrate the glass.
Impact Protection Adhesive
There are different levels of protection. The first level is the film itself. For further enhanced protection, consider an impact protection adhesive (IPA) attachment system. In layman’s terms, IPA is a structural adhesive applied around the perimeter of the window frame. The IPA anchors the coated glass pane to the window frame, making it more difficult to punch the windowpane in to gain entry. For those seeking optimal security, we recommend installing a 3M security film paired with an IPA attachment system.
Mitigate Injury & Damage
In addition to serving as a crime deterrent, security window film also helps mitigate injury and damage caused by flying shards of glass. Without window film, the glass pane of a window can send lethal daggers soaring through the air, potentially harming occupants or damaging property. However, when bolstered with security film, the broken pieces are held intact to minimize the hazardous spraying effect of glass.
